Investment Process

Abacus Financial Advisors pursues a disciplined, five-step investment process that focuses on the client's needs and financial goals.

Whether our client is an individual, a family or an institution, we make sure that all investment criteria are addressed, including expected portfolio performance, risk tolerance, liquidity needs, the investment time horizon, and asset class restrictions or preferences.

In the first step, we analyze the current portfolio to assess its suitability, efficacy, and tax-basis. Fees, expenses and commission charges are examined to determine whether the expense structure is providing sound value.

Working closely with the client to determine investment goals and criteria, we then design an optimal portfolio. We employ asset allocation techniques that include long range capital market projections based on academic and institutional research.

Thirdly, we create a written Investment Policy Statement that sets out the client's objectives, asset allocation while creating objective benchmarks to analyze portfolio performance. This important document details every aspect of the investment process including a detailed process for the management of taxable and tax-exempt financial assets.

In the fourth step, the plan is implemented by selecting superior individual securities and/or top performing mutual funds in each asset class. We are generally able to obtain favorable fee arrangements and reduced brokerage charges through our institutional relationships.

Lastly, we supervise the portfolio on a continuing basis, providing timely reports to help assure that the stated goals are met and managers achieve their benchmarks. Based on market conditions and changes in the client's objectives we will recommend rebalancing the portfolio to reflect economic conditions.
