Punchy writing and crisp design make The Fool one of the most popular financial sites. The staff works hard at turning out financial news and commonsense commentary with a sense of humor. Well-trafficked bulletin boards are monitored by Fool employees and don't have as much junk as Yahoo's.

 

Thomson Investors Network

This free site contains an impressive array of tools and investment data. Weekly financial commentary from First Call, Thomson's equity research subsidiary. Read Daily Market Wrap, Stocks to Watch, and Market Report columns. Get an e-mail subscription to I-Watch, a service that tracks institutional block trades. Basic membership package cost $34.95/year. Plenty of earnings-related information and tools on Zacks' site, which now offers other tools. After plugging in a ticker symbol, you get a full page of Street earnings estimate by individual investment banks and by consensus. Earning section lists the biggest surprises as well as earning earnings in aggregate for the market.
